INDIANAPOLIS -- The NCAA Men's Water Polo Committee announced today the four teams participating in the 2005 National Collegiate Men's Water Polo Championship.
This year's championship, hosted by Bucknell University, will be held December 3-4.
In the first game, the University of Southern California (24-1) will play St. Francis College (New York) (20-8). The second game will match Stanford University (19-6) versus Loyola Marymount University (18-15). Game times are 3:30 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Eastern time respectively on December 3. The third-place game will be played at 4:30 p.m. on December 4 with the championship game at 6:00 p.m. The national championship match will be televised live on CSTV.
Conferences receiving automatic qualification included the: Collegiate Water Polo Association, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and the Western Water Polo Association. The remaining team was selected at-large without geographical restrictions.
Last year, the University of California, Los Angeles defeated Stanford 10-9 to capture the championship.
Since the beginning of the championship in 1969, no team from outside the state of California has ever reached the championship final.
