Plattsburgh State promotes assistant coach Joe Higgins to head coach
PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Plattsburgh State director of athletics Bruce Delventhal has announced a pair of coaching changes for the Cardinals. Former assistant coach Joe Higgins will serve as the team's head coach in 2014 while Annmarie Curle has been selected as the program's assistant coach.
Higgins has been elevated to the position of head coach after spending the 2013-14 campaign as the team's assistant coach. During his first season as a collegiate coach, Higgins helped the Cardinals put together a record of 5-8 which included a thrilling 5-4 triumph against SUNYAC rival Fredonia State in the SUNYAC Tennis Championships to close out the season.
In addition to his one year of assistant coaching with the Cardinals, Higgins has served as a tennis coach at Peru Central School for the past five years. Higgins spent 2010 competing for the men's tennis squad at SUNY Oneonta and earned his bachelor's degree in mathematics through Empire State College.
Assistant coaching duties will fall on the shoulders of Curle, who makes her collegiate coaching debut. Curle, a physical education teacher at Oak Street Elementary School, is a member of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.
