No. 3 Amherst extends winning streak to 11 by defeating Bates
LEWISTON, Maine -- Third-ranked Amherst extended its win streak to 11 matches with a 9-0 sweep of NESCAC rival Bates College.
Improving to 23-2 (2-0 NESCAC) on the season, the Jeffs shut out an opponent for the ninth time in their last 11 outings. Bates fell to 4-7 (1-2 NESCAC) with the loss.
Headlining Amherst’s doubles pairings, Joey Fritz and Justin Reindel earned an 8-5 decision over Timmy Berg and Pierre Planche. Andrew Yaraghi and Aaron Revzin turned away Ben Bogard and Peter Yanofsky, 8-3, while Michael Solimano and Chris Dale defeated Eric Ruta and Christopher Ellis, 8-3.
Dropping the first set of his No. 1 singles match against Berg (7-5), Fritz took the final two frames by scores of 6-2 and 10-7. Dale also surrendered the first set of his second singles showdown against Planche (6-3) before rallying with a pair of 7-6 and 10-6 victories.
Solimano got the best of Ellis at third singles, 6-3, 6-4, while Anton Zykov dispatched of Brent Feldman, 7-5, 6-0. Yaraghi notched a 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Henry Lee, while Revzin held his own at the bottom of the order by way of a 6-4, 6-3 win over Patrick Ordway.
