No. 4 Tennessee cannot battle back, falls to No. 21 Texas A&M 4-1
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- Senior Madison Shipman hit her 12th home run of the season but No. 4 Tennessee could not battle back from No. 21 Texas A&M's three-run first as the Lady Vols fell to the Aggies 4-1 on Friday at the Aggie Softball Complex.
Tennessee (33-6, 9-4 SEC) scored its lone run in the fourth inning off a solo home run by Madison Shipman. Texas A&M (28-12, 9-7) scored three in the first and one in the fourth.
Shipman, Haley Tobler, Cheyanne Tarango and Shaliyah Geathers each recorded a hit in the game.
Ellen Renfroe (22-3) struck out six and allowed four runs in six innings in the loss.
Rachel Fox (11-6) earned the win for Texas A&M after striking out eight and allowing one earned run.
Texas A&M to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first. With runners on the corners and one out, Cassie Tysarczyk hit a three-run homer over the wall in right field.
Shipman got Tennessee on the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning to pull the Lady Vols to within 3-1. With one out, Shipman sent a 1-1 pitch from Fox soaring over the wall in left for her career-high 12th home run of the season.
The Aggies answered with a run in the bottom of the fourth to push their lead back to three runs. With two outs, Jenna Stark hit a solo homer to left.
