TCU keeps streak alive
Beard captured top spot in smallbore after shooting a 586
FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU rifle team coasted to its 29th consecutive regular season victory with a 4683-4644 victory against UTEP Saturday afternoon. Sarah Beard captured top spot in smallbore after shooting a 586 and Sarah Scherer continued her dominance in air rifle, shooting a 598 in the discipline.
Beard's impressive performance in smallbore got the Horned Frogs off on the right foot as they took an early 2323-2308 lead in the match. TCU posted four of the top six scores in the discipline. Scherer finished third after shooting a 581 and Mattie Brogdon turned in a fourth place finish after shooting a 579. Catherine Green shot a 577 to finish sixth and Claudia Duksa fired a 573 for an eighth place finish. Caitlin Morrissey factored into the team aggregate score with a 567.
In air rifle, the Frogs had five of the top six scores as they dominated to the tune of a 2360-2336 victory. After Scherer's tally of 598, Beard capped off an impressive day at the range with a 591. Morrissey (586), Brogdon (585) and Jaime Dowd (585) rounded out the top six. Green also shot a 585 for a ninth place finish.
Also shooting in air rifle were Duksa (581), Maggie Savage (566) and Nicole Markakis (560).
The Horned Frogs (10-0) will wrap up regular season action Thursday when they play host to Air Force. It's the start of a busy week for the Frogs as they will shoot the NCAA Qualifier two days later against the same Falcons squad. Both matches will take place at the TCU Rifle Range.
