Oles Top Gusties 19-14

ST. PETER, Minn. - Leon Clark's go-ahead two-yard touchdown run with 29 seconds left helped St. Olaf defeat Gustavus 19-14 in an MIAC football game on Saturday afternoon.

Clark's score capped a 12-play, 79-yard drive. He finished with 155 yards rushing on 27 carries, giving Clark his sixth straight 100-yard rushing performance.

St. Olaf (3-1, 1-1 MIAC) used a 19-yard Jason Obarski field goal to take a 13-7 lead with 6:44 left. Gustavus responded with a six-play, 73 yard drive which was finished by a 14-yard Muresuk Mena touchdown reception that gave the Gusties their first lead of the game, at 14-13 with 3:32 to play.

The Oles' final drive was highlighted by a fourth-and-four conversion pass play from Dan Dobson to Antonio Jennings. Dobson and Jennings hooked up for a five-yard touchdown for the game's first score with 3:16 left in the first quarter.

Jennings finished with a game-best six receptions for 117 yards. Dobson was 14-for-24 for 165 yards with the touchdown and an interception.

The Gusties' Logan Becker went 19-of-31 for 198 yards and two scores. Becker found Darin Wagner for a 20-yard scoring connection early in the second quarter to tie the game at 7-7.

The St. Olaf defense picked up an important turnover, on Brian Albrect's sack and fumble recovery, in the fourth quarter that led to Obarski's field goal. Albrect had 3.5 tackles for a loss, including two sacks, while Ben Dobson had 10 tackles and an interception to lead the Ole defense.

St. Olaf (3-1, 1-1 MIAC), which has now won eight in a row against Gustavus, hosts Bethel University next Saturday at 1 p.m. Gustavus plays at Concordia.
