Big East Announces Weekly Football Honors

BIG EAST OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Geno Smith • So. • QB • West Virginia • Miami, Fla.

Smith completed 19 of 29 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns in West Virginia’s 31-17 win against Maryland. He started the game by completing his first 10 passes for 173 yards and three TDs while helping the Mountaineers take a 28-0 lead into the third quarter. Smith threw touchdown passes of 6, 5, 26 and 5 yards to remain unbeaten as West Virginia’s starting quarterback.

BIG EAST DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Bruce Irvin • Jr. • DE • West Virginia • Walnut, Calif.

Irvin was the catalyst of a West Virginia defense that limited Maryland to -10 rushing yards and 217 net yards in a 31-17 win against the Terrapins. He had three sacks, resulting in a loss of 22 yards, a pass breakup and a forced fumble to go with four tackles.

BIG EAST SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Mike Holmes • Sr. • CB • Syracuse • Jacksonville, Fla.

Holmes earns his second BIG EAST special teams weekly honor after he helped Syracuse to a 38-14 win against Maine. Holmes averaged 33 yards on a pair of punt returns, including a 62-yard return that led to an Orange touchdown. Holmes leads the BIG EAST with a 17.7-yard average on punt returns this season.

WEEKLY HONOR ROLL

D.J .Woods, WR, Cincinnati — Had six receptions for 146 yards and two touchdowns in a 30-19 loss at North Carolina State.

Jordan Todman, RB, Connecticut — Rushed for a career-high 192 yards and a touchdown in a 30-16 loss at Temple.

Adam Froman, QB, Louisville — Completed 22 of 38 passes for 288 yards and a touchdown and had two rushing TDs in a 35-28 loss at No. 25 Oregon State.

Chandler Jones, DE, Syracuse — Had seven tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles in a 38-14 win against Maine.

Ryan Nassib, QB, Syracuse — Completed 19 of 28 passes for 260 yards and a school-record five touchdowns in a 38-14 win against Maine.
