IRVING, Texas – Houston junior RB Bryce Beall has been named Offensive Player of the Week after rushing for a career-high 195 yards and three touchdowns in the Cougars’ 54-24 win over UTEP. Marshall senior DE Vinny Curry earned Defensive Player of the Week honors after a big performance in the Thundering Herd’s game vs. No. 22 West Virginia. Special Teams recognition went to Tulsa junior K Kevin Fitzpatrick, who had four field goals in Tulsa’s 33-20 victory over Bowling Green.
Beall rushed for his career-best 195 yards on 19 carries for a 10.3 yard average. He scored three touchdowns, tying a career best. Beall rattled off runs of 43, 35 and 31 yards in helping Houston to a 54-24 win over UTEP in the conference opener.
Curry had 11 tackles, three for loss, two sacks and two forced fumbles in Marshall's near upset of No. 22 West Virginia on Friday night. Curry led a Marshall defensive effort that did not allow a West Virginia touchdown until the fourth quarter.
Fitzpatrick’s 15 points proved to be the difference in Tulsa’s 13-point win over Bowling Green. He tied a career-best by converting four-of-four field goals, including two in each half. He had first-half field goals of 23 and 27 yards, and second-half field goals of 34 and 46 yards. He also connected on 3-of-3 PATs
