IOWA CITY, Iowa (Sports Network) - Iowa quarterback Ricky Stanzi threw two touchdowns passes and added another score on the ground, as the ninth-ranked Hawkeyes rolled to a 35-7 win over Iowa State at Kinnick Stadium.
Stanzi was 11-of-18 for 204 yards, while Adam Robinson rushed for 156 yards and one TD for Iowa (2-0).
Austen Arnaud completed 20-of-44 passes for 197 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions for the Cyclones (1-1).
Iowa wasted no time early, driving 71 yards in 13 plays on the game's opening series. The Hawkeyes converted a pair of third downs along the way, including a 3rd-and-9 from the ISU 33-yard line when Stanzi moved the chains with an 11- yard pass to Derrell Johnson-Koulianos.
The drive ended with Stanzi hitting Marvin McNutt over the middle for a nine- yard TD.
Iowa State went three-and-out on its initial offensive sequence, and the Hawkeyes orchestrated another time-consuming drive that extended into the early moments of the second quarter. Jewel Hampton capped the 16-play jaunt with a two-yard TD run.
The Cyclones failed to get a first down on their second drive, and a 66-yard completion by Stanzi to McNutt set up a two-yard TD pass to Allen Reisner.
Iowa continued to pile on the points. A 75-yard dash by Robinson to the brink of the end zone set the stage for Stanzi, and his plunge put the Hawkeyes up 28-0 with 2:52 remaining before halftime.
Following the break, Iowa's explosive offense needed just three plays to cover 97 yards in the third quarter. Robinson began the drive, which was set up by a Arnaud interception, with a minimal gain on the ground. After Stanzi and Reisner hooked up for a 55-yard completion to the ISU 39, Robinson took it the rest of the way to give Iowa a 35-point cushion.
An eight-yard TD pass by Arnaud to Darius Darks spoiled Iowa's shutout bid with 1:51 to play in the game.
