FRISCO, Texas â€“ McNeese State freshman tailback Marcus Wiltz, who ran for 160 yards in the Cowboyâ€™s 30-27 season opening win over Lamar, was named the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. His teammate Josh Lewis was named the special teams player of the week while Southeastern Louisiana defensive back Tommy Connors was named the leagueâ€™s defensive player of the week.
Offensive Player of the Week: Marcus Wiltz, McNeese State
Playing in his first collegiate game, Wiltz came off the bench to lead the Cowboys with 160 yards rushing on 26 carries. The freshman from Cecilia, La. (Cecilia), also caught one pass for five yards to finish with 165 all-purpose yards. His 12-yard run with less than a minute left in game gave the Cowboys a first down and enabled them to run out the clock for a non-conference victory over Lamar.

Defensive Player of the Week: Tommy Connors, Southeastern Louisiana
Making his return to the field after missing the final nine games of the 2009 season to an injury, Connors registered seven tackles with four solo stops in Southeastern Louisianaâ€™s season opener at Tulane. The senior from Marrero, La. (Archbishop Shaw), recorded a second-quarter sack and forced fumble that was recovered by teammate Stephen Moreaux that stopped a Tulane drive at the SLU 11.

Special Teams Player of the Week: Josh Lewis, McNeese State
Lewis scored 12 points in Cowboysâ€™ 30-27 win over Lamar last Saturday. The sophomore from Denham Springs, La. (Denham Springs), was perfect on all three field goal attempts, connecting twice from 37 yards an outd again from 26 yards. He also converted all three extra point attempts.
