Methodist Football Falls to Randolph-Macon

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - Randolph-Macon took the early lead on Saturday in the Monarchs' first football game of the season. The Yellow Jackets finished with the 54-14 win.

Randolph-Macon scored two quick touchdowns in the first quarter for the 14-0 lead. Methodist picked up a first down on their third possession when quarterback Travis Murphy connected with Curtis Maheu for a 16-yard pass.

The Yellow Jackets came back with another touchdown in the second quarter. Methodist took over on their own 40-yard line with 9:17 to go in the second quarter. Murphy led the Monarchs into the red zone before Jonathon Strickland finished with the two-yard touchdown. Tyler Mosko's kick was good to cut the lead to 21-7.

The Methodist defense forced the Yellow Jackets to punt on the ensuing possession, but Randolph-Macon recovered the ball on a fumble and drove in for another touchdown. They went on to sneak in another touchdown before halftime to hold the 35-7 lead.

Randolph-Macon added the next three touchdowns before quarterback John Glenn threw a pass in between the defense to Corey McGuire who finished the 71-yards to the end zone. Mosko connected on the point-after to finish the scoring.

Murphy finished 7-for-16 with 54 yards passing and 86 yards rushing. Jacob Hunt and Navahri Holden had seven tackles a piece for the Monarchs.

Randolph-Macon quarterback Austin Faulkner threw for 220 yards going 15-for-20 for the day. Thaddeus Scruggs added 80 yards rushing with three touchdowns.

The Monarchs will be back in action next Saturday at Guilford at 7 p.m.
