GLASSBORO, N.J. â€“ Running back Keith Corcoran rushed for 153 yards and one touchdown to lead Rowan University to a 24-17 victory over Lycoming College in the season opener on Saturday.
Corcoran (so. Atlantic City, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) carried the ball 21 times for a 7.3 average. Quarterback Kenny Brock (fr. Burlington, NJ/Burlington Twp.) competed 15 of 34 passes for 135 yards and one touchdown in his collegiate debut. He also had a one yard touchdown run. Wide receivers Justin Long (sr. Sicklerville, NJ/Pennsauken) and Khalil Wallace (fr. Fr. Woodbine, NJ/Millville) tallied 46 and 45 receiving yards respectively. Wideout Marcus Lee (sr. Vineland, NJ/Vineland) had three grabs for 15 yards and one touchdown.
The Profsâ€™ defense was led by linebacker Jerome Gordon (sr. Browns Mills, NJ/Pemberton Twp.) with 12 tackles (3-9). Linebacker Steve Hague (sr. Buena, NJ/Buena Reg.) registered nine stops (5-4) and two tackles for a loss (-3 yards). Defensive end Justin McCulley (sr. Erial, NJ/Timber Creek Reg.) had a sack (-13 yards) and a forced fumble. Safety Bobby Carroll (so. Southampton, NJ/Seneca) also forced a fumble.
For Lycoming, running back Josh Kleinfelter (sr. Bellwood, PA/Bellwood-Antis) compiled 91 rushing yards on 24 carries. Quarterback Zach Klinger (so. Halifax, PA/Halifax) threw for 145 yards and one touchdown. He had 12 completions in 31 attempts. Fullback Mike Reese (sr. Shenandoah, PA/Shenandoah) had three catches for 50 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Josh Dixon (sr. Fleetville, PA/Lackawanna Trail) added 40 yards receiving and wideout Ryan Wagaman (sr. Aspers, PA/Biglerville) had 36.
Defensive back Matt Talerico (so. Moosic, PA/Riverside), linebacker Chris Kish (jr. Wilkes-Barre, PA/G.A.R. Memorial), defensive tackle Anthony Marascio (jr. Philadelphia, PA/Father Judge) and safety Chuck Bellitto (sr. New Holland, PA/Garden Spot) all compiled eight tackles. Marascio had one sack (-7 yards) and a forced fumble. Bellitto had a 25 yard interception return for a touchdown. Safety Ray Bierbach (jr. Hunlock Creek, PA/Northwest Area) contributed with seven tackles (3-4), three pass breakups and one interception. Defensive lineman Dillin Rudloff (so. Athens, PA/Athens) recovered a fumble.
Rowan went ahead 7-0 with 27 seconds left in the first quarter. Brock scored on a one yard touchdown run. The Profs started on the Warriorsâ€™ 25 yard line after a short punt. Long caught a 24 yard pass from Brock on the first down. Two plays later, Brock found the end zone.
Rowan recovered the ensuing on-side kickoff to take over at its own 48 yard line. Corcoran had an eight yard run and Long followed with a four yard grab. After two short runs totaling five yards, the Profs reached the Warriorsâ€™ 20 yard line following a pass interference call. On fourth down, kicker Antonio Regalbuto (so. Clayton, NJ/St. Joseph (Hammonton)) made a 35 yard field goal that put Rowan up 10-0 at 12:25 in the second stanza. Brock connected with Lee for a six yard touchdown pass with 14 seconds remaining for a 17-0 halftime advantage. Corcoran started the drive off with a 27 yard run. Brock completed three passes to Wallace for 28 yards and Corcoran tacked on a 12 yard scamper. Tight end Kevin DelleDonne (jr. Summit, NJ/Summit) hauled in a four yard reception to set up the touchdown.
At 8:27 in the third period, Corcoran broke free for a 73 yard touchdown run to push the lead to 24-0. Lycoming got on the scoreboard at 1:52 when Bellitto intercepted Brockâ€™s pass and took it 25 yards for a touchdown, making the score 24-7.
Klinger threw a 20 yard touchdown pass to Reese at 13:30 in the fourth to bring the Warriors within 10 points (24-14). Lycoming started on its own 39 yard line. Running back Parker Showers (so. Aspers, PA/Biglerville) had a nine yard carry. Klinger followed with a 32 yard pass to Dixon before finding Reese for the score. Warriorsâ€™ kicker T.J. Chiarolanza (sr. Warminster, PA/William Tennent) nailed a 28 yard field goal at 6:56, but the Profs held on for the win. Lycoming got the ball on the Rowan 11 yard line after Marascio forced a fumble and Rudloff recovered it.
