California to play 2011 season at Giants Park

BERKELEY, Calif. (Sports Network) - The California Golden Bears football team will play its 2011 home games at San Francisco's AT&T Park, home of the city's Major League Baseball team, the Giants.

Cal will play its 2010 season in Memorial Stadium, but the structure will then undergo a retrofit and will be finished in time for the team to play its home games at the building in 2012.

"We are thrilled to be playing our 2011 home games at AT&T Park," Cal football coach Jeff Tedford said. "The facility is one of the finest sports venues in the world and is located in a nearby and desirable location in San Francisco. It is a terrific setting for college football, and our team and fans had a fantastic experience there during the 2008 Emerald Bowl victory against the University of Miami."

The school also looked at using the Oakland Coliseum and Candlestick Park as its temporary home.

Attendance at Memorial Stadium is about 71,700, while AT&T park is expected to hold just over 45,000 fans for football.

Cal's 2011 schedule is not yet complete. The school and the Giants will work toward an arrangement for both teams' requirements for the months of September and October.
