CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Charlotte Touchdown Club is proud to announce the five finalists for the 2009 Bronko Nagurski Trophy. The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is awarded each year to the nation’s most outstanding Division I defensive football player.
The 2009 Bronko Nagurski Trophy finalists are:
Pat Angerer, LB, Iowa
Eric Berry, DB, Tennessee
Terrence Cody, DT, Alabama
Jerry Hughes, DE, TCU
Ndamukong Suh, DT, Nebraska
Each finalist will be honored at the Bronko Nagurski Awards Banquet on December 7, 2009, at the Westin hotel in Charlotte, NC. The keynote address will be given by North Carolina State University Head Football Coach, Tom O’Brien. Former Carolina Panthers Quarterback, Steve Beuerlein is slated as Master of Ceremonies. Roger Wehrli will also be honored as winner of the 2009 Legends Award presented by CSX Intermodal.
The Bronko Nagurski Trophy is presented annually by the Charlotte Touchdown Club and Football Writers Association of America to the nation’s most outstanding NCAA defensive football player. The Charlotte Touchdown Club also honors local college and high school football players and over the last decade has raised more than $900,000 for student athletic scholarships throughout the Charlotte Metro Area.
The Charlotte Touchdown Club is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization founded in 1991 for the purpose of promoting high school, collegiate, and professional football in the Charlotte, North Carolina region. The Club's activities and services focus community attention on the outstanding Citizenship, Scholarship, Sportsmanship, and Leadership of area athletes and coaches.
