WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Purdue football coach Danny Hope today announced the signing of 20 student-athletes to National Letters-of-Intent to play football for the Boilermakers. The group joins four other players to make up a 24-member recruiting class, Hope’s second at Purdue.

In January, the Boilermakers inked cornerback Michael Eargle, tight end De’Ron Flood, tight end Gabe Holmes and linebacker Will Lucas. Those four currently are enrolled at Purdue.

The class of 2010 features five defensive backs, five defensive linemen, three linebackers, three tight ends, three wide receivers, two specialists, one quarterback, one offensive lineman and one running back.

“We believe we did really well with this class,” Hope said. “We had some specific needs, and we addressed them. We landed some of our top picks, including a handful of No. 1 picks, and that’s obviously a positive for our program.”

The recruits hail from seven different states: Eight from Florida, four from Illinois and Pennsylvania, three from Indiana, two from Ohio and Texas, and one from Wisconsin.

In addition, long snapper Jesse Schmitt, from Louisville, Ky., has been accepted to Purdue and announced his intentions to join the football program for the 2010 season.
