GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota head football coach Chris Mussman announced today that 24 student-athletes have committed to play the 2010 Fighting Sioux football season and to further their education at UND. The announcement was made during the first official day of the 2010 NCAA Football National Letter of Intent signing period.

“We have some very talented players in this group,” Mussman said. “Main goal for this recruiting season was to create more depth for our football team. We have a significant gap between our older players and our younger players so we’ll have close to 45-50 kids coming into fall camp this year that will be freshman or true freshman.

“The key this year, we were looking at running backs, but overall we wanted to strengthen the depth of our football team. Eight states are represented by this year’s class with the largest number – eight – coming from Minnesota. Five commitments were received from North Dakota and three each from California and Wisconsin. Two were signed from Arizona and one apiece from Colorado, Nebraska, and Texas.

“There is a possibility for a couple of those players to step on the field this fall, but we’ll have to wait and see what they can handle during fall camp. If anyone, it will be the skill kids. But we aren’t done. We’ll look to sign a couple more players here in the future.”
