OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BRETT SMITH, WYOMING
Sophomore, Quarterback, Salem, Ore./West Salem HS
Sophomore quarterback Brett Smith threw for a personal-best 412 yards and completed three touchdown passes to lead Wyoming to its third consecutive win after a 28-23 victory at UNLV. Smith's 412 passing yards rank as the ninth-best single-game performance in school history, and make him only the seventh player in UW history to pass for over 400 yards in a single game. The Salem, Ore., native staked the Cowboys to a 28-17 halftime lead with TD passes of five, 33 and four yards. He connected with eight different receivers on the day, completing a career-high 75.8 percent of his passes (25-of-33) without an interception. Smith has now attempted 139 passes without throwing an INT, moving him into fifth place on the Mountain West charts for most passes completed without an interception.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ALBERT ROSETTE, NEVADA
Senior, Linebacker, Antioch, Calif./De La Salle HS
Senior linebacker Albert Rosette recorded a game-high 15 tackles (eight solo) and made several key stops as the Nevada defense made a second-half stand to lead the Wolf Pack to a 31-24 win at New Mexico. On the Lobos’ first drive of the fourth quarter, with Nevada clinging to a seven-point lead, Rosette made five consecutive tackles, including four solo stops, to end UNM’s drive. One of those tackles included a stop of Lobo quarterback Cole Gautsche for no gain on fourth-and-one to give the ball back to Nevada. On the next UNM possession, Rosette and teammate Dray Bell stopped running back Kasey Carrier a yard short of the marker on a third-down play to force another Lobo punt.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MARQUESTON HUFF, WYOMING
Junior, Cornerback, Texarkana, Texas/Liberty-Eylau HS
Junior cornerback Marqueston Huff registered seven tackles (three solo) and a forced fumble to aid the Wyoming defense in a 28-23 win at UNLV. Huff’s forced fumble came on a Rebel fake field goal attempt midway through the third quarter with Cowboys holding a 28-10 lead. As Rebel quarterback Caleb Herring made a sideline dash from 25 yards out, Huff knocked the ball from Herring’s hands at the one-yard line, sending it through the end zone for a Wyoming touchback. On UNLV's first possession of the fourth quarter, Huff made a key tackle on Rebel running back Tim Cornett for only a three-yard gain on a second and 10-yard play. That series would end with an incomplete pass on third down and a punt on fourth down.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
COLIN DITSWORTH, NEVADA
Sophomore, Kicker, Las Vegas, Nev./Bishop Gorman HS
Nevada sophomore Colin Ditsworth, filling in for injured first-string kicker Allen Hardison, connected on all four of his extra-point attempts and made his first career field goal in Nevada’s 31-24 win at New Mexico. The Las Vegas, Nev., native hit all three extra-point attempts in the first half and his fourth attempt in the second half. On Nevada’s opening drive of the second half, Ditsworth drilled a 24-yarder to extend the Wolf Pack’s lead to 24-17.
