Pittsburg State Claims 20-6 Road Win Over Truman

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. - Briceton Wilson carried the ball 31 times for a game-high 115 yards and two touchdowns to lead No. 22 Pitt State to a 20-6 victory over Truman Saturday (Oct. 27) at Stokes Stadium.

The win helped the Gorillas improve to 6-2 on the season and 6-2 in MIAA play, while the Bulldogs dropped to 4-5 overall and 3-5 in the MIAA.

Pitt State trailed 6-3 early in the second quarter, but the Gorillas outscored Truman 17-0 the rest of the way.

Wilson scored on runs of 3 and 1 yard in the second quarter as Pitt State built a 17-6 halftime advantage.

The Gorillas added a 24-yard field goal from Connor Frazell with 9:40 to play in the game for the final margin. Frazell also booted an 18-yard field goal on Pitt State's opening drive, after Truman took an early 3-0 lead.

The Gorillas compiled 382 rushing yards on 64 carries. Jason Spradling also rushed the ball 17 times for 113 yards for Pitt State.

Tony Abenoja completed seven of 15 passes for 67 yards in the game, including three passes to John Brown totalling 35 yards.

The Pitt State defense limited the Bulldogs to 203 total yards, including 90 rushing yards in the contest.

Nate Dreiling made a team-leading eight tackles, including a pair of tackles-for-loss. Marquise Cushon added five stops and a fumble recovery, while Graylon Sanders had three tackles as well as an interception in the Pitt State end zone to halt a potential Truman scoring drive.

The Gorillas will return to action next Saturday (Nov. 3) for Senior Day when Pitt State entertains MIAA newcomer Lindenwood at 2 p.m.
