CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Coastal Carolina quarterback Aramis Hillary (North Augusta, S.C.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Chanticleer linebacker Quinn Backus (Greenwood, S.C.) has been selected as Defensive Player of the Week for games played the fourth week of the regular-season. Liberty kicker John Lunsford (Fort Myers, Fla.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week, and Presbyterian quarterback Tamyn Garrick (Williston, S.C.) is The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.
Hillary was 30-of-47 passing for 356 yards and three touchdowns at Toledo, setting school records for completions and attempts in a game, and throwing for the third-highest passing total in Coastal history. He led the Chants to four touchdown drives against the Rockets and did not throw an interception in recording a 148.52 pass efficiency rating. Hillary was 12-of-16 for 153 yards and a touchdown in the first half, and rallied the Chants from a 17-7 deficit to a 21-17 lead early in the second half. He also converted three third down pass plays during three of Coastal’s four TD drives -- two of which were touchdown strikes.
Backus tallied a team-high 13 tackles at Toledo, with nine solo stops, a forced fumble and fumble recovery. With Coastal down 10 points midway through the fourth quarter, Backus stripped Toledo’s Cassius McDowell and recovered the fumble, and five plays later the Chanticleers scored a touchdown to get to within three points.
Lunsford scored a career-high eight points against Lehigh, making both field goal attempts (32 and 40 yards) and both point-after-touchdown kicks. In addition, he booted all five of his kickoffs into the end zone for touchbacks to minimize Lehigh’s starting field possession.
Garrick enjoyed a career day against Furman, as he was 20-of-32 passing ( =62.5 percent) for 270 yards and a touchdown. He rallied PC from a 24-0 halftime deficit with three scoring drives, as he was 13-of-19 for 184 yards and his TD pass in the second half.
