DENVER – Louisiana Tech quarterback Colby Cameron, San Jose State linebacker Vince Buhagiar and UTSA kick returner Kenny Harrison were named the Western Athletic Conference offensive, defensive and special teams players of the week, respectively.
Cameron, a senior from Newbury Park, Calif. (Newbury Park HS), completed 19-of-24 passes for 276 yards and tied a career-high with four touchdown passes in the 56-37 win over Rice. He also had four carries for 15 yards. Cameron has guided the Bulldogs to 56 points in both games this season and is 10th in the nation in total offense with 314.5 yards per game.
Buhagiar, a junior from Concard, Calif. (Clayton Valley HS), had a team-high 11 tackles (9 solo), including a sack for a five-yard loss, in San Jose State’s 40-20 win over Colorado State. Buhagiar matched his career-high in tackles and was also credited with a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry.
Harrison, a sophomore from Lindale, Texas (Linden-Kildare HS), returned three kickoffs for 111 yards (37.0 yards per attempt) in UTSA’s 38-14 win at Georgia State. After Georgia State went up 7-3, Harrison returned the ensuing kickoff 84 yards to the 16-yard line. The Roadrunners scored a touchdown a few plays later to give UTSA a lead it would never relinquish. Harrison also caught one pass for 16 yards in the game to finish with a team-high 127 all-purpose yards.
Others nominated on offense: sophomore wide receiver Austin Franklin, New Mexico State; junior quarterback David Fales, San Jose State; junior running back Evans Okotcha, UTSA; and senior running back Kerwynn Williams, Utah State.
Also nominated on defense: sophomore defensive back Le’Vander Liggins, Louisiana Tech; and sophomore linebacker Zach Vigil, Utah State.
Other special teams nominations included: senior placekicker Matt Nelson, Louisiana Tech; junior punter Harrison Waid, San Jose State; and senior punter Tyler Bennett, Utah State.
