BAYLOR: The Bears (1-0) were idle this weekend after defeating SMU 59-24 in their season opener a week ago. They'll host Sam Houston State on Saturday.
IOWA STATE: It wasn't pretty, but the Cyclones managed a 9-6 victory at in- state rival Iowa to improve to 2-0. Jake Knott came up with the game-clinching interception late in regulation to help ISU claim the Cy-Hawk Trophy. Steele Jantz completed 24-of-36 passes for 241 yards and a touchdown, but he also threw a pair of interceptions. Jantz also recorded a team-high 40 rushing yards on 14 carries. Aaron Horne racked up 73 yards and the game's only touchdown on six catches, while James White contributed 65 yards on seven grabs. The Cyclones won despite turning the ball over four times and not scoring a point after halftime. The defense held Iowa to 304 total yards for the game. They'll play host to Western Illinois on Saturday night.
KANSAS: The Jayhawks were on the wrong end of a 25-24 decision to Rice, dropping to 1-1 on the year. Kansas led 24-16 entering the fourth quarter, but Rice scored nine unanswered points in the final frame. The Owls won it on a 45-yard field goal as time expired. Dayne Crist struggled under center for KU, as he finished with just 144 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. His first pass of the game was intercepted, which led to an early field goal for the opposition. Following that field goal, Jayhawks return man D.J. Beshears fumbled the ensuing kickoff. The defense bailed Beshears out with an interception in the red zone, and KU's offense settled into a rhythm from there. Tony Pierson headlined the ground game with a career-high 120 yards on 19 carries. Next up, the Jayhawks tangle with TCU on Saturday afternoon to open their Big 12 schedule.
KANSAS STATE: The Wildcats moved to 2-0 on the young season following Saturday's 52-13 rout over Miami. With the victory, they jumped up six spots in the latest poll to No. 15. It also marked the team's 11th straight home win over an unranked foe. Senior quarterback Collin Klein headlined the offense with three rushing touchdowns and another score through the air. He completed 9-of-11 passes for 210 yards, while rushing for another 71 yards on 22 carries. John Hubert carried the ball 19 times for 106 yards and a touchdown, while Tyler Lockett caught three balls for 59 yards. K-State, which claimed the first-ever meeting between the schools last season, has won nine straight September games. The Wildcats will try to make it 10 in a row on Saturday night when North Texas comes to town.
OKLAHOMA: The fifth-ranked Sooners are 2-0 following Saturday's 69-13 thrashing of Florida A&M, a school from the Football Championship Subdivision. Damien Williams put on a show, rushing for 156 yards and four TDs in the victory. Williams accounted for each of Oklahoma's first three scores, as the Sooners jumped out to an early 21-3 lead. Landry Jones completed 19-of-28 passes for 252 yards with two touchdowns and an interception for the Sooners (2-0), who were coming off a 24-7 win at UTEP in the season opener. Kenny Stills had 10 catches for 120 yards and a score on Saturday, while Brennan Clay rushed for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns on just eight carries. Oklahoma improved to 64-3 against unranked opponents at home, which includes a 32-1 mark against non-conference foes. OU will get a bye this week before hosting Kansas State in its Big 12 opener on Sept. 22.
OKLAHOMA STATE: After blanking Savannah State 84-0 in its opener, Oklahoma State suffered a 50-38 setback at Arizona over the weekend. The loss dropped the Cowboys out of the national rankings and added weight to the argument that the Cowboys were no better off by scheduling Savannah State in the opener. Penalties played a key role, as OSU was whistled 15 times for 167 yards. Wes Lunt threw for 436 yards and four touchdowns on 37-of-60 passing in the loss, but also had three interceptions. Tracy Moore caught eight balls for 106 yards and four touchdowns, while Joseph Randle had 123 yards on 23 carries for the Cowboys. Oklahoma State leads the all-time series between the teams, 5-4, but has dropped four of the five games played in Tucson. The Cowboys fell to 11-11 all-time against the Pac-12. They'll look to rebound at home against Louisiana this weekend.
TCU: The Horned Frogs opened their season with a 56-0 rout over Grambling State on Saturday. With the victory, TCU jumped from No. 20 to No. 16 in this week's AP poll. Casey Pachall was a perfect 9-for-9 passing on the day, finishing with 201 yards and three TDs. Backup quarterback Trevone Boykin went 8-for-8 through the air for 75 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for 57 yards and a touchdown on five carries for TCU (1-0), which played its inaugural game as a member of the Big 12 Conference. Waymon James rushed for 69 yards and a touchdown on five carries, while Josh Boyce led the receiving corps with four catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns. Brandon Carter contributed a touchdown catch. David Bush added a receiving score and Deante' Gray returned five punts for 160 yards and a touchdown in his first college game. TCU head coach Gary Patterson earned his 110th victory, becoming the program's all-time winningest coach. The Horned Frogs travel to Kansas this weekend to open their Big 12 slate.
TEXAS: The Longhorns sit at 2-0 following Saturday's 45-0 blanking of New Mexico. David Ash led the way for 14th-ranked Texas, passing for 221 yards and two scores. Ash completed 16-of-22 passes through three quarters before Case McCoy played the fourth and went 5-for-8 through the air for 64 yards and a score. Joe Bergeron added 49 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, while Daje Johnson had a game-high 66 yards and a touchdown on three receptions. The defense held New Mexico to 35 yards on 6-of-16 passing, as the Lobos could do nothing to stop Texas' lead from growing. The Longhorns had 431 total yards on offense for the day, while New Mexico had 241. A week after gashing Wyoming on the ground, Texas took some shots downfield through the air, with good results. The Longhorns travel to Ole Miss this week for a Saturday night showdown.
TEXAS TECH: The Red Raiders are off to a 2-0 start following Saturday's 58-10 blowout win at Texas State. Through two weeks, they have posted 102 points as the offense appears to be in midseason form. Seth Doege had himself a day with five touchdown passes against Texas State. He completed an efficient 25-of-32 throws for 319 yards. Twelve different Red Raiders caught a pass in the game, paced by Javon Bell (81 yards), Jakeem Grant (78 yards), and Darrin Moore (73 yards), who all caught five balls. Still, it was the defense that set the tone less than four minutes into the game when Cody Davis returned an interception 88 yards for a touchdown to give the Red Raiders an early 7-0 lead. They added to their advantage less than a minute later on a 23-yard touchdown strike from Doege to Moore, and the rout was on from there. By game's end, TTU had racked up 32 first downs and 591 yards of total offense, compared to 16 first downs and 270 yards for Texas State. The Red Raiders host New Mexico on Saturday night.
WEST VIRGINIA: The ninth-ranked Mountaineers had the weekend off. They took down Marshall in their opener a week earlier, 69-34, and will host James Madison this Saturday.
