- Gabe Profitt hit Jordan Griffin for a five-yard touchdown pass with 21 seconds left in the game to lift Glenville State to a 28-24 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC football action at Ram Stadium on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead with 14:17 left in the first quarter on a 35-yard field goal by junior kicker Eric Dobratz (Woodbridge, VA/Potomac).
Glenville State took a 7-3 lead into the break when Profitt teamed with Mario Wright on a 23-yard scoring pass with one second left in the half.
The Pioneers extended their lead to 14-3 when Profitt connected with Antwan Stewart on a 15-yard score with 10:20 left in the third quarter.
Shepherd answered back on a one-yard run by junior running back Nate Hoyte (Waldorf, MD/McDonough) with 1:26 left in the third quarter.
Profitt fired a 47-yard scoring strike to Griffin with 11:48 left in the fourth quarter to up the Pioneer lead to 21-10.
Senior quarterback Kevin Clancy (Westminster, MD/Westminster) teamed with junior wide receiver Neal Hardie (Alexandria, VA/West Potomac) on a 14-yard scoring pass with 4:11 remaining to cut the lead to 21-17.
Junior running back Tommy Addison (Germantown, MD/Quince Orchard) ran three yards for a touchdown with 1:47 remaining to give the Rams a 24-21 lead following a Clancy to sophomore wide receiver Larry Lowe (Stafford, VA/Brooke Point) pass for the two-point play. The scored was set up by an interception by senior linebacker Brian Taylor (Elkridge, MD/Long Reach).
Clancy completed 22-of-40 passes for a 174 yards, while Profitt connected on 16-of-16 passes for 208 yards and four scores.
Addison rushed for 106 yards on 25 carries, while Joe Mesadiue had 89 yards on 22 carries for Glenville.
Shepherd falls to 9-1, 7-1 in WVIAC play, while Glenville State improves to 5-6, 4-4.
The Rams await word on Sunday for seeding in the upcoming NCAA II Playoffs.
