- James Aho (New Mexico), Miles Burris (San Diego State) and Andy Dalton and Tanner Brock (TCU) are the Mountain West Conference Players of the Week for games through Nov. 6. Dalton earns Offensive Player of the Week honors, while Brock and Burris share the Defensive Player award and Aho garners Special Teams recognition. This marks the sixth career player of the week honor for Dalton, the fourth accolade for Aho, and the first for both Brock and Burris.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ANDY DALTON, TCU
Senior, Quarterback, Katy, Texas/Katy HS
Andy Dalton completed 21-of-26 passes for a career-high 355 yards and three touchdowns to help No. 3 TCU record a 47-7 win at No. 5 Utah. The Katy, Texas, native threw a pair of touchdown passes in the first quarter, connecting with wide receiver Josh Boyce for a 26-yard score five minutes into the contest before throwing a 93-yard touchdown pass to Boyce at the 2:11 mark. Dalton’s 93-yard touchdown pass to Boyce marked the third-longest play in TCU history and the second-longest in MWC history. The senior quarterback added another strike late in the third quarter, finding wide receiver Jimmy Young for an 11-yard touchdown reception to put the Horned Frogs ahead, 37-10.
CO-DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
TANNER BROCK, TCU
Sophomore, Linebacker, Copperas Cove, Texas/Copperas Cove HS
Tanner Brock registered a career-high 12 tackles (six solo), an interception and a pass breakup to help No. 3 TCU improve to 10-0 with a 47-7 victory at No. 5 Utah last Saturday. The Copperas Cove, Texas, product keyed a Horned Frog defense that limited the Utes’ nationally third-ranked scoring offense to seven points, 51 yards rushing and 199 yards of total offense. On the third play of the second half, Brock recorded a 57-yard interception return, setting up a four-yard touchdown run by running back Ed Wesley on the next play, which put TCU ahead, 30-0, with 14:20 remaining in the third quarter.
MILES BURRIS, SAN DIEGO STATE
Junior, Linebacker, Granite Bay, Calif./Granite Bay HS
Miles Burris tallied a career-high 10 tackles (nine solo), four tackles for loss (-39 yards), two sacks (-22 yards) and two forced fumbles in San Diego State’s 24-19 victory over Colorado State last Saturday. The Granite Bay, Calif., native put together a standout first half, registering seven (six solo) tackles, two sacks, three tackles for loss and a pair of forced fumbles over the first 30 minutes of action.
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JAMES AHO, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Kicker, Roswell, N.M./Roswell HS
James Aho kicked a 38-yard field goal as time expired to help New Mexico snap a nine-game losing streak with a 34-31 win over Wyoming. The Roswell, N.M. product also connected on a career-best 51-yard attempt at the 9:30 mark of the third quarter to pull the Lobos to within four at 21-17. Aho also connected on all four of his extra point attempts against the Cowboys, finishing the contest with 10 points.
