LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama football team finished its annual spring game with the Red squad pitching a shutout against the White squad 30-0.
“The two teams were divided pretty even, but the Red team had a lot better showing today, which is surprising considered how evenly matched they were today,” said UWA head coach Will Hall. “Otha (Foster) really got things going early today to set the tone."
Foster set the tone early returning an interception 45 yards for a touchdown putting his squad up 14-0.
Kyle Caldwell completed 14-of-21 passes today including three going for touchdowns for the Red team. Two of TD passes traveled 20-plus yards with a 22-yarder to Jonathan Ducksworth and Reggie Hall taking a reception to the endzone from 41 yards out – the longest offensive play of day.
“We haven't seen the film yet, but it sure seems like Kyle had the better game today. He and Gary (Johnston) have gone back and forth all spring. The good news is the best two quarterbacks in Division II are right here in Livingston.”
The Foster INT return followed a Hall TD reception of 11 yards for the first score of the game. Hall finished the day with 55 yards receiving.
“Reggie is a really fast guy with a tremendous attitude,” Hall stated. “He was in the military so he's already disciplined and does a good job in the classroom.”
Daryl Bourne finished with a team-best 25 yards today on four carries to lead the rushing attack.
“We've been trying to build this thing the right way brick by brick and we think we should be a top 15 team in the preseason considering what we have coming back from last season and what we've added this year,” Hall stated.
West Alabama opens the 2012 season on Saturday, Sept. 1 at Clark Atlanta.
