KINGSTON, R.I. – NCAA Championship participants New Hampshire, Richmond, William and Mary and defending National Champion Villanova highlight the 2010 University of Rhode Island football schedule, which was announced Thursday.

“We are excited about our upcoming schedule and each week will present a different challenge for our team,” said head coach Joe Trainer.

The Rams open the 2010 campaign on Thursday, Sept. 2 as they travel to Buffalo to take on a Bulls team, which claimed the 2008 Mid-American Conference title.

Rhody then travels to Fordham on Sept. 11 to take on the Rams, who URI defeated 41-28 in its 2009 season-opener. URI will make its first trip to Fordham since the 2008 season.

The Rams open their slate at home on Sept. 18 as they welcome NCAA playoff participant New Hampshire. In its last three meetings with New Hampshire, Rhode Island has racked up 1,589 yards of total offense (537 - 2007; 517 - 2008; 535 - 2009).

In Rhody’s 2009 meeting with the Wildcats, URI racked up a season-high 42 points thanks to a career-day by quarterback Chris Paul-Etienne as he threw for 424 yards through the air, while accounting for five touchdowns (four – passing; one – rushing).

Following its bye week on Sept. 25, Rhody welcomes Brown to Meade Stadium on Oct. 2 for the 29th annual Governor’s Cup matchup.

Rhody then hits the road for a pair of away games, traveling to William and Mary on Oct. 9 and to Delaware on Oct. 16.

The Rams close out the year with three of their final five games at home against Maine (Oct. 23), 2009 National Champion Villanova (Nov. 6) and Massachusetts (Nov. 20).

During its final five-game stretch, Rhody will travel to Towson (Oct. 30) and to Richmond (Nov. 13). In 2008, Richmond captured the National Championship.
