EAST LANSING, Mich. (Sports Network) - Michigan State junior linebacker Greg Jones announced Wednesday that he is returning for his senior season.
Jones was the Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year in 2009 after finishing
third in the Football Bowl Subdivision with 154 tackles. That mark was tops in
the Big Ten while Jones added a team-best 14 tackles for loss and nine sacks.
"I'm excited to announce that I'm returning to Michigan State for my senior
season," Jones said. "After the bowl game, I was leaning toward returning, but
it was important for me to step back and do my homework in regards to the NFL
Draft. My teammates and I have some unfinished business to take care of."
In his three seasons with the Spartans, Jones has racked up 359 tackles, 36
1/2 of those for a loss, and 15 1/2 sacks in 39 games. He ranks second among
FBS active leaders in both total tackles and tackles per game (9.2), having
posted double-digit stops in 16 of his last 20 games.
