Enos named new football coach at Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (Sports Network) - Central Michigan has named Dan Enos its new head football coach.

This will be Enos' first head coaching assignment after 19 years in various assistant roles. He will take over for Steve Stripling, who was the interim head coach for Central Michigan's GMAC Bowl win over Troy.

Butch Jones was Central Michigan's head coach before taking the vacancy at Cincinnati on December 16.

Enos spent the past four seasons as an assistant at Michigan State under Mark Dantonio, coaching the running backs for the past three years after one year as the quarterbacks coach.

The 41-year-old was also the quarterbacks coach for Dantonio at Cincinnati in 2004 and 2005, and has been an assistant on the Division I level at Western Michigan (2000-02).

Other coaching stops for Enos included the offensive coordinator at Division II North Dakota State in 2003 and the offensive coordinator position at FCS Missouri State in 1999. He began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Michigan State from 1991-93 and also worked on staffs at Lakeland College (1994-95), Northern Michigan (1996) and Southern Illinois (1997-98).

Enos was a four-year letterman and a two-year starter at quarterback for Michigan State from 1987-90.
