CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Stony Brook running back Miguel Maysonet (Riverhead, N.Y.) has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Football Offensive Player of the Week, while Presbyterian College defensive lineman Brian Davis (Charlotte, N.C.) has been selected as the Defensive Player of the Week for games played the eighth week of the 2010 season. In addition, Blue Hose kicker Cam Miller (Lyman, S.C.) is the Special Teams Player of the Week, while Gardner-Webb defensive end Preston Pemasa (Garden Grove, Calif.) is The Crons Brand Freshman of the Week.
Maysonet rushed for 193 yards and three touchdowns in Stony Brook’s victory at Coastal Carolina. He averaged 9.6 yards per carry on his 20 attempts, and had five rushes of at least 10 yards, including a 78-yarder on the first play of SBU’s second drive of the game, as well as a 31-yard touchdown run later in the first half. Maysonet had all three scores in the opening stanza, and his rushing total was the 11th-highest in school history. He also caught one pass for six yards and returned a kickoff 21 yards to finish with 220 all-purpose yards on the night.
Davis enjoyed a career day in helping the Blue Hose snap their 20-game losing streak with a victory at Gardner-Webb. He posted a career-high eight tackles, including a team-high six solo stops. Davis also recorded his first tackles behind the line of scrimmage this season with three quarterback sacks and four tackles-for-loss of 20 yards. Two of his sacks were on Gardner-Webb’s final possession of the game that forced a 4th-and-19 situation. Davis had one-third of PC’s Division I school-record and Big South single-game record nine sacks on the day.
Miller accounted for eight points against Gardner-Webb, connecting on 2-of-3 extra points and 2-of-2 field goals (41 and 31). His 31-yarder with 2:24 remaining proved to be his second game-winning kick – the last coming in PC’s last win in 2008, while his 41-yarder early in the second quarter gave the Blue Hose a 10-7 advantage, which was the team’s first lead of the season.
Pemasa continued his strong play this season and recorded a career-high 10 total tackles, including seven solo stops, against Presbyterian College. He added a career-high 2.0 tackles-for-loss as well as three quarterback pressures. Pemasa also forced a fumble deep in PC territory and recovered the loose ball early in the third quarter to set-up a go-ahead score for Gardner-Webb.
