- Newberry College (3-4, 2-2 South Atlantic Conference) comeback fell short as the Catawba (5-2, 3-1 SAC) Catawba Indians walked away with 28-25 win after trailing by as many as 10 points in the first quarter.
The Catawba Indians scored 21 straight points before the Wolves responded with a touchdown and two-point conversion in the fourth but couldn't get the ball back to try and tie the game.
Catawba quarterback Patrick Dennis accounted for 397 of the Catawba Indians' 515 yards, 384 in the air with three touchdowns and 13 on the ground. Dennis finished 24-for-43 passing. Newberry starting quarterback Bryan Ehrlich was 10-for-16 in the air before being replaced by Parker Hite. Hite finished up 13-for-24 for 180 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
Newberry running back Lyndon Ingram was the team's first 100 yard rusher of the year, taking 13 carries for 133 yards. Catawba receiver Gerron Bryant caught six passes for 195 yards and a touchdown while Newberry receiver David Pressley walked away with 12 receptions for 155 yards and a score.
The Wolves were also the victims of four turnovers.
Newberry will be back in action next Saturday, Oct. 30, as the Wolves host SAC opponent Carson-Newman. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
