AUBURN, Ala. (Sports Network) - Cam Newton threw for three touchdowns, as 10th- ranked Auburn pounded Louisiana-Monroe, 52-3, at Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Marion Fannin rushed for 89 yards and a score for the Tigers (5-0), who have won all eight meetings with ULM. Newton completed 14-of-19 passes for 245 yards and was picked off once as the Tigers rolled up 507 yards of offense.
Kolton Browning finished 26-of-34 for 207 yards for the Warhawks (1-3), who were coming off a one-point win over Southeastern Louisiana.
On the second play from scrimmage, Onterio McCalebb surged on a right run and rumbled 50 yards to the end zone for a 7-0 Auburn lead.
After forcing ULM to punt on its opening possession, it took the Tigers just two more plays to extend their lead. Newton found a wide open Emory Blake over the middle and the sophomore wide receiver went 94 yards for a 14-0 edge. It was the longest play from scrimmage in Auburn history.
Radi Jabour kicked a 35-yard field goal to cap the Warhawks' second possession, but Wes Byrum's 19-yard kick made it 17-3 by the quarter's end.
Early in the second, ULM tried a fourth down pass from the Auburn 23, but Zac Etheridge came up with the interception. Auburn started the ensuing possession at its 34 and it took nine plays for the Tigers to reach the end zone. Michael Dyer ran three yards for a score to increase the lead to 21 points with under seven minutes left in the half.
Just over four minutes later, Newton threw a 16-yard TD pass to Quindarius Carr for a dominating 31-3 halftime lead.
Newton was picked off early in the third, but ULM gave the ball right back when Tavarese Maye fumbled after making a reception. The Tigers took over at the ULM 21 and finished the short drive on Newton's five-yard TD pass to Philip Lutzenkirchen.
Fannin scored on a two-yard run on the first play of the final quarter and sophomore QB Barrett Trotter scrambled 18 yards before being upended as he scored with under nine minutes left to account for the final margin. The TD came after ULM fumbled on a fourth down play.
