LEXINGTON, Ky. - NCAA Football announced today the donation of $50,000 toward construction of a new stadium and track at Miami's historic Moore Park, the park that hosted the Palm Festival, the precursor to the Orange Bowl. The project will break ground Jan. 6, just two days before the city hosts the FedEx BCS National Championship.
"This donation symbolizes NCAA Football's ongoing commitment to fostering young football players and fans," said Bob Vecchione, chair, NCAA Football Youth Initiatives Committee. "In addition, we will continue our commitment in February when NCAA Football returns to Moore Park to host a clinic for youth football players."
When complete, Moore Park will have a state-of-the-art youth sports/high school football stadium featuring a new playing surface of synthetic field turf, 1,500 aluminum bleacher seats, press box with PA system, electronic scoreboard and field lighting. Moore Park's revitalization also will include a running track to host track and field events, two restroom/concession facilities and a storage structure.
The Orange Bowl Committee, in honor of its 75th anniversary, and the city of Miami are each providing a legacy gift of $2.5 million toward the park's extreme makeover. The additional funds necessary to complete the $5.65 million project will come from community and corporate donors. Those interested in more information about Moore Park's revitalization should call 305-341-4700 or visit www.orangebowl.org.
